Sanjiv Singh quoted as representative of 16 Lion Air Families on DOJ’s May 14, 2024 decision to find Boeing in Breach of DPA
Sanjiv Singh has been active with noted victims rights’ attorney and scholar Professor Paul Cassell and other 737 Max Plaintiffs’ attorneys in challenging the Deferred Prosecution Agreement entered into between Boeing and the Department of Justice. Singh presented views of the Lion Air Families on multiple occasions at globally attended meet and confer sessions with the DOJ held most recently this year. On May 14, 2024, the DOJ communicated to the families and their counsel that it had concluded that Boeing had breached the DPA and would be taking steps to move forward with criminal proceedings accordingly.

Excerpts:
“For the victims’ families, the agreement was always seen as a sweetheart deal that let Boeing off the hook. The Justice Department’s Tuesday decision is a ‘frameshift in the DOJ’s approach to prosecution of Boeing,’ said Sanjiv Singh, an attorney who is representing 16 families who lost loved ones from the first 737 MAX crash, which occurred Oct. 29, 2018, in Indonesia.
The agreement was ‘flawed from the beginning and victims’ rights were violated when it was signed,” Singh said. “Boeing should be held accountable in criminal proceedings where the victims have a voice.’”

Sanjiv Singh and team file wrongful death petition against San Mateo County for death of infant in county foster care placement
Based on Singh’s groundbreaking work in other DCFS cases in Los Angeles, Singh was approached to investigate the death of infant Brian Pan in San Mateo and quickly identified that there were egregious alleged circumstances suggesting not only that San Mateo County was responsible for the death, but also suggesting unusual delay and possible concealment of critical evidence. The groundbreaking Section 946.6 petition filed by Singh was not opposed by San Mateo County, and it is reasonably expected that the lawsuit will be filed before the end of the summer.

Excerpts:
"Although she would not speak directly to The Standard, her attorney, Sanjiv Singh, contends that the county failed to identify a safe, proper foster care placement, which ultimately led to the infant being crushed and suffocated.
“San Mateo, in my opinion, is single-handedly responsible for the death of Brian Pan,” Singh said. “There is no excuse for this,” he added, “and the situation was entirely preventable.”
The civil lawsuit is pending. The county said it is evaluating how to respond.
Brian's twin brother and older brother were finally reunited with their mom on Oct. 12, 2021, a month after Brian’s death. They have been with her since, though the family has moved elsewhere in the United States, according to Singh.
But their fight for answers is not over.
“It is mind-boggling that the twins were taken from her in the first place,” Singh said. “There are very real questions of whether there was deliberate concealment of the circumstances surrounding Brian's death.”

Sanjiv Singh and team featured in critically acclaimed Flying Blind (Doubleday) which is the definitive chronicle of the Boeing 737 Max Debacle
In the critically acclaimed Flying Blind (Doubleday) by Peter Robison, the groundbreaking work of Sanjiv and his co-counsel Michael Indrajana on the Boeing matter is described and Sanjiv’s views are quoted extensively.
See Flying Blind, U.S.A. and Global [Doubleday], November, 2021
Notable excerpts:
“On instinct, despite all the reporting about pilot error and shoddy maintenance, Singh told Indrajana he wanted to sue Boeing.” (p. 188)
“‘The underbelly of aviation is the disenfranchisement of people of color globally—they’re being treated like absolute pawns,’ Singh said.” (p. 190)
“Indrajana, raised in Indonesia, saw it as a cynical and ultimately racist deception that would never have happened after a crash on U.S. soil. He called Singh one day and told him, ‘I think we’ve got something that goes beyond the crash itself.’” (p. 189)

Sanjiv N. Singh, APLC Interviewed by Bloomberg on Boeing Settlements
Bloomberg sought out the views of Sanjiv Singh in connection with Boeing settlements. Mr. Singh observed that while many of his cases had settled, there were still significant cases left to prosecute including a case involving two children orphaned as a result of the tragic crash.

Sanjiv N. Singh Settles High Profile Double Fatality of Two Young Children With Los Angeles County
Los Angeles County [Board of Supervisor Meeting], CA, July 2020
Sanjiv Singh was contacted by a DCFS whistleblower in 2019 and immediately recognized that the Hickman and Brewster families had lost their children due to what has been alleged to be serious misconduct involving a total failure to properly track high risk abuse and protect potentially abused children. Once introduced to the two families, Singh lead the charge to file lawsuits against Los Angeles County, and rapidly bring justice to the two families. The County approved the settlement in July 2020 and acknowledged the need for systemic change as a result of the lawsuits. It is notable that several law firms aware of the case were unwilling to take it because they did not analyze the statute of limitations issue appropriately. Sanjiv and his team briefed the issue extensively and formulated a plan to defeat the County’s key defense.

Boeing Aims to Move Victim Lawsuits Abroad, but C.E.O. Says He Is Unaware
David Gelles, NY Times, Nov 10, 2019
“‘Moving these cases outside the U.S. would eliminate any chance of accountability for Boeing,’ said Sanjiv Singh, who is representing 16 families. ‘Muilenburg, as the C.E.O. of one of the largest and most powerful companies on earth, had to have known this, or should have known this, when he testified.’”

Families 'cheated of Boeing crash compensation'
BBC, July 11, 2019
“Sanjiv Singh, an American lawyer representing some of the families, told the BBC relatives had been pressured into signing away their legal rights.
‘The families who signed the release and discharge [documents] have been cheated out of compensation, they've been preyed upon by insurance companies and by the counsel for those insurance companies, and ultimately, to the benefit of Boeing’ he said.”

Boeing Offers $100 Million, Beyond Lawsuits, to 737 Max Crash Victims
Richard Clough and Alan Levin, Bloomberg [U.S.], July 3, 2019
“Sanjiv Singh…questioned the timing of Boeing’s announcement and said the funds being promised were inadequate.
‘This is a child-size band-aid on a deep gaping wound,’ Singh said in an emailed statement. ‘I am highly suspicious of this maneuver.’”

Mother Took Back Child 3 Days Before Double Homicide, Family Says
Patrick Healy, March 19, 2018 (NBC News)
“Shortly before a woman was found with her two children -- one dead and the other dying -- a liquor store security camera had recorded a haunting sight: the mother carrying her month old infant, and holding the hand of her 7-year-old as they walked down an empty sidewalk at night. None of the three was wearing any clothing, but were dusted with a ghostly white powder.”
In 2019, SNS PLC’s founder Sanjiv Singh spoke with a DCFS whistleblower who revealed that the two children’s death was preventable and that the risk of danger and harm was reported to Los Angeles County three days before with plenty of time to intervene and protect the children. Sanjiv and his Boeing co-counsel Brian Kabateck filed suit against Los Angeles County for these preventable deaths.
The exact same agency and its leadership named in the lawsuit filed by SNS PLC and Kabateck are also the focus of the nationally acclaimed Netflix documentary Trials of Gabriel Fernandez where a little boy was killed also due to the failure of DCFS and Los Angeles County to intervene on his behalf.
Sanjiv Singh Partners with former Solicitor General of the United States To Oppose Foreign Sovereign’s Writ of Certiorari
Submitted January 26, 2017; Writ Denied.
In high profile litigation against a foreign government for technology misappropriation, Sanjiv Singh and former Solicitor General of the United States Theodore Olson filed a Brief in Opposition before the United States Supreme Court to oppose the foreign government’s attempt to have lower court rulings reversed. Singh and Olson’s opposition was successful, and the Writ was denied.
SNS PLC Wins Three Week Trial With Punitive Damages for Digital Media Entrepreneurs
SNS PLC represented two digital media entrepreneurs in a hotly contested three week trial in San Francisco Superior Court. Multiple large insurers had resisted settlement, believing that the defamation claims would fail and that SNS PLC would not prevail at trial. They were wrong. SNS PLC won decisively, with a verdict that not only delivered punitives but with complete victory on the defamation claims.
“[Laura] Maness praised the efforts of the SNS PLC team: ‘We were thrilled with the victory—it's been a long road. And we were successful largely due to the expertise, dedication, and determination of Mr. Singh and his legal team. After weeks of witness testimony and expert testimony, Mr. Singh summed up the case for the jury in a way that made it easier to understand, analyze and render a just verdict.’”
